Objectives of Project:-

(1)-Scientific collection of the sanitary pads and napkin from household and other such households biomedical waste (dressing material, bandages).

(2)-Scientific disposal of the sanitary pads and napkin from household and other such as a biomedical household.

The Design:

  • The design is made in the form of 2 co-centric bucket chambers (circular and rectangular model)
  • The inner bucket will mainly contain the napkins along with the solution and has multiple through holes to enable the flow for a solution with the outer bucket.
  • The disinfectant solution used here is 6% concentration H₂O₂(Hydrogen Peroxide).
  • And the outer bucket contains the extra solution and tap to drain out the solution. The inner bucket fits over the outer bucket with a lid enclosing on top locking the whole system.
  • Now, to insert the pads, parallel openings are given on the top side of both the buckets along with a flap covering that opens inwardly.
  • A piston with multiple holes, passing through the lid, is used to compress the pads and letting the extra solution over the piston.

I have designed two drawing in SolidWorks they are listed in following word files:-

Working-model prototype:

The working mechanism is quite simple. The garbage collector guy lifts the piston with one hand, inserts the napkin(s) with the other and finally presses the piston to complete the action. The flap gets free only when the piston is lifted above the opening, that will ensure the disposal of pads below the piston.

The tap is used to control the solution level whenever required. Also, the solution can be easily refilled by opening the lid and the piston.

The inner bucket is lifted and detached during the final segregation and removal of napkins from the hygiene box.

Salient features:

A one-step ergonomic model has been designed considering the time constraints of the garbage collector guy.

The piston is dual-purpose; to compress the pads, hence making the space for new ones and to ensure the complete soak of pads with the solution.

A poka-yoke(mistake-proofing) has been incorporated by keeping the flap long enough to be blocked by the piston in the initial position, which will stop the garbage collector to wrongly insert pads above the piston. All the parts are easily detachable, to be able to clean and conveniently empty the pads.

Hygiene box is specially designed for Saswad Municipal Council for Scientific collection of the sanitary pads and napkin from household and other such households biomedical waste. This box main purpose is the management of hazardous waste. This hygiene box disinfects the sanitary napkins and household biomedical waste. This box is specially designed for preventing health diseases and causes occur due to the sanitary napkins for solid waste management staff and the driver of garbage van collector and other people also. In this video, all information is described detailed how this box will work.
