Introduction

Diwali is a good occasion to celebrate with friends and family. To appreciate the moment even more, what better than to build your own lamp!

This blog should not be followed completely to the letter for the creation of its own lamp. Give free rein to your imagination and adapt to the equipment and desires you have!

On the photo above you can see 3 collaborators of the project. From left to right: Pierre-Jean Martin, Jivan Bahiram and Basile Pasquale. Click on their name to access their blog!

Materials used

  • Cardboard for the structure
  • Colored paper to let the light through
  • Colored paper to decorate the outside of the lamp
  • Colored strips for the bottom of the lamp
  • Sequins, stickers or any other decorating ideas you may have!
  • Strong glue to stick everything together

Hardware used

  • Laser cutter

Software used

  • RDWorksV8 for structure design
  • Inkscape to work on images

Tips

The RDWorksV8 software was used for the design of the file to be cut with the laser cutter. Any other software will do and you can even cut out the parts of the boxes with a scissor or cutter, although the result may be less efficient. When you draw the patterns think carefully about the final orientation of these once the lamp is assembled. Get help from your loved ones to build the lamp, it should be a group activity!
