INTRODUCTION

Solar energy technology is an emerging energy field that provides opportunities for talented and bright engineers to make beneficial impacts on the environment while solving intriguing engineering challenges. However, before attempting to design solar energy power systems, engineers must understand fundamental electrical laws and equations and how they apply to solar energy applications.

At Vigyan Ashram solar panel system of 6.5 kW capacity was installed. There are two sets and each has 10 panels which means a total of 20 panels. And it is installed on the top of the memorial hall at Vigyan Ashram. Solar panel power generates 32 kW/day for 20 panels.

The electricity generated cannot be stored in Vigyan Ashram. For some reason, Vigyan Ashram has attached 20 solar panels to the MSEB board which generates solar energy and supplies it to MSEB.

And the problem with solar panels is that natural disasters can cause dust on the panels. Dust was reducing power generation, So we work on a solar power generation system.

PROBLEM

Power generation on solar photovoltaic cells was less due to dust and unwanted substances.

OBJECTIVES

1. To monitor power generation of the solar photovoltaic system regularly.

2. To maintain the system by using following ways:-

a)To cleaning the panels by using water.

b)To find out performance of solar panels before and after cleaning.

SOLUTION

After brainstroming Dixit Sir suggests us to experiment to measure dust.

5 Feb

To measure the dust on the solar panel, we first took 150ml of water and dipped a clean rag in the water, wiped a panel with the rag and then squeezed the rag in the water.

When we put it for drawing and then we weighed it, we got 0.4 grams, we got less power generation when there was dust and we got more power generation when we wiped the dust.

CALCULATION

20 x 0.4 = 8gm of soil on Solar Panels.

15 Feb

Then we did another experiment in which we took an hour of reading before the meridian and then we did an hour of water reading and found that solar power generation was higher when we hit the water.

The next day after cleaning the panels, we realized that the generation was really slowing down because of dust.

After that we started collecting daily data. We understood that this generation was really high at noon (Noon= 11.47 AM to 1.47 PM)

6 April

We started new experiments and take readings.

For this time we take only four readings and all over end of the day how much power is generation that one reading also note down.

Solar Panels are at 46°c and the water we use to spread on it it was 31°c.

After the water treatment we collect the water in bowl and take temperature reading and It was 43°c.

And we noticed that the units genration between from 11:36 – 12:36 is 0.4 between two Panels A and B.

And this process we use 2 days for Panel A and then 2 days later for Panel B.

16 April

After brainstorming with Dixit Sir we discussed the results of the old reading and still we not satisfied.

Then Dixit sir suggested a new experiment to me and I worked on it.

17 April to 19 April

Then I repeat the experiment for 2 days and take the reading.

And I was getting the same reading every time.

Therefore, water purification experiment is not a way to generate more power/electricity on solar panels.

SUGGESTION

This is a way to generate more electricity, you just have to clean the panels after 2 weeks with the help of 5 liter water for 10 panels.

CONCLUSION

I monitor the system regular basis and that the units fluchuates. Due to not clear wether the power generation units not get properly.

I clean the solar panels with water and this experiment i observe that again the power generation unit is not increase.

Why we clean the panels because on panels the dust particles are present. This dust particles stop the sun rays on solar panels.

When i clean the solar panels it removes only dust particles.Cleaning the solar panels is not give any effective result.The power generation is getting same after and before cleaning the solar panels.

From both experiments and its results we found that water treatment was not suitable for solar panels.

Cleaning the panels twice a month gives more efficient energy than usual and generates 2 units more electricity.
