• Soaking

Soak means make or allow to become wet by immersing it in liquid. It is based on principle of osmosis process which is diffusion of water molecules from a region of higher water concentration to lower water concentration through a partially permeable membrane.

• Why soaking time is essential?

when soaked maize seeds for 24 hours there is odour in water and also in the maize seeds to remove this odour and to know exact time of soaking.

Objective : To find out soaking time of maize seeds.

• ﻿Trial 1
• Materials:
 Sr No. Materials Quantity 1. Beaker 1 2. Measuring cylinder 1 3. Maize seeds 100 gm 4. Weighing Balance 1
• Procedure:
• 1. I have taken 100 gm of maize seed into beaker.
• 2. Added 100 ml of water into beaker.
• 3.Then I take weight of maize seed at one-hour of interval with the help of weighing balance.

• Observations:

Weight of maize = 100 gm

Conclusion :

From the experiment concluded that the soaking time of maize seeds is 12 to 14 hours but in this there was experimental errors so next step is to get other trial on soaking time.

## TRIAL 2

•  Procedure:
1. I had taken 100 gm of seed.
2. Added water into the vessel until the seed fully immersed into it.
3. After half hour of interval sieve was withdrawal from the vessel and weight it.

• Observations:
• Weight of sieve = 50 gm
• Weight of maize seeds = 100 gm
• Weight of sieve + maize seeds = 150 gm
• Water = 1000 ml

• Result and Conclusion:

From the above observations I found that the soaking time of maize seeds is 12 to 14 hours.

• Trial 3
• Objective : To find out soaking time of maize seeds (African Tall) .
• Observations

1.Weight of maize = 100 gm

2.Weight of sieve = 94 gm

3. Water added = 600 ml

• Trial 4
• Objetive : To find out soaking time of maize grains at warm water.
• Materials
 Sr. no Material Quantity 1. Maize seeds 100 gm 2. Thermometer 1 3. Vessel 1 4. Sieve 1 5. Insulation box 1
• Procedure :
1. I had taken 100 gm of maize seeds.
2. Then I take sieve of 94 gm weight and added maize seeds and weigh it by the weighing balance.

3.Added warm water (45°C) into the vessel until the seed fully immersed into it.

4.Vessel were placed insulated box. (Tharmcol box)

5.After half hour of interval sieve was withdrawal from the vessel and weight it.

6.I was recording the readings until the values were get constant

• Observations

1.Weight of maize = 100 gm

2.Weight of sieve = 94 gm

3. Water added = 800 ml
