Why calculate the efficiency of solar water heaters ?

Solar water heater are expensive and Evacuated tube collectors absorb most of the heat from the sun but it is only used it to heat water temp 50 to 60°C then we want to see where else it can be used. eg. dryer

EMPATHY:

The first assignment I got to measure the efficiency of solar water heater. Now that we know that is goes to 50 to 60 % from observations, using this energy we have to make a model for drying and put sawdust in it for observation. Lepa has a farmer who dries the chillies in sun which reduces there yield for this we make a dryer using the efficiency of solar water heater so that there product will not decreases. Farmer from MP(Lepa) dry chillies under direct sun. This results in wastage upto 30% .Efficient solar dryer base on vaccume tube is a option. This project is step towards it.

Procedure:

  1. Measuring Temp at 9.00am with help of thermometer.
  2. Measuring Temp at 3.00pm with help of thermometer.
  3. Measuring Temp at 5.00pm with help of thermometer.
  4. Calculate Area of ETC.
  5. Calculate Energy in 1m²(Solar Irradiation)
  6. Difference in time
  7. Efficiency=Output/Input

Taking temperature reading at 9.00Am, 3.00pm, 5.00 Pm for 4days continuously

PROBLEM IDENTIFIED:

Initially we were taking morning and evening temperature readings without draining water.

PROBLEM SOLUTION:

The efficiency on 24th february is higher than 19th and 21st february because we tried to bring the inlet and outlet temperature same.

Conclusion:

we have to come to the conclusion that we need to drain all water in storage tank completely and the efficiency does not come up until the temperature of inlet and the outlet come together.

Result:

After measuring the efficiency of each day, we find that the efficiency goes up to a maximum 50-70%
