At Vigyan Ashram, September was a month filled with exciting developments and accomplishments, driven by our commitment to improving processes and enhancing our digital platforms. From upgrading websites to implementing practical systems and mentoring young minds, we embraced multiple projects to contribute to the ongoing growth of the organization. Here’s a detailed look at what we achieved this month:
1. Website Development for DST
One of our major projects in September was the continued development and enhancement of the DST (Department of Science and Technology) website. Initially launched in August, the website serves as a central platform for numerous organizations to showcase their profiles and share information on various technologies they’ve developed.
Throughout September, we focused on two main objectives:
- Profile Updates: We sent out emails to all associated organizations, urging them to update their profiles and provide detailed technology information. Keeping this data current ensures that visitors to the DST platform are presented with the latest innovations and developments in various field.
- Reports and Status Stories: We also encouraged organizations to upload their latest reports and status stories. These contributions are crucial for maintaining an active and engaging platform that reflects ongoing progress.
After the initial launch, a few technical difficulties emerged. Our team worked diligently to address and resolve these issues, ensuring that the DST website now runs smoothly, providing a reliable and user-friendly experience for both contributors and users.
2. Development of a Temporary Kitchen Attendance System
An interesting challenge that came up during the month was the need to develop a temporary system for managing kitchen attendance at Vigyan Ashram. With staff and members attending meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) daily, there was a need for an efficient system to log and track attendance.
We developed a straightforward yet effective solution using:
- PHP for backend logic
- JavaScript for front-end interaction
- HTML, CSS, and SQL for structure and data storage
This temporary kitchen attendance system allows users to log their meal attendance seamlessly, with the data stored in a database for easy retrieval and reporting. The interface is simple, user-friendly, and designed to handle the daily meal attendance efficiently. This project has helped streamline meal management at the Ashram and improved overall record-keeping.
3. Creation of a Data Logger Landing Page
Another critical task in September was developing a landing page to organize and display information about data loggers used for monitoring dryers at the Ashram. These loggers play a crucial role in tracking the performance and efficiency of various drying systems.
To make the information easily accessible, we designed a landing page that sorts dryers into three main categories:
- BSF (Black Soldier Fly)
- Polyhouse
- General Dryer
Each category contains links to detailed information about the respective dryers. Built with static HTML and CSS, the landing page loads quickly and is easy to maintain. This simple yet effective solution ensures that users can easily access the information they need about the various dryers with just a few clicks.
4. Mentoring at the Makethon
In late September, Vigyan Ashram hosted a Makethon, a two-day event where participants collaborated on innovative solutions to real-world problems. I had the privilege of mentoring a team of students during this event. Our focus was on problem-solving using AI and computer applications.
One of the key challenges identified by the team was the issue of scattered study materials. College students often struggle with accessing study materials spread across multiple websites and books. Over the course of the event, we conceptualized a solution: developing an app that consolidates all relevant study information in one place.
On the first day, we discussed various problems and identified this as our focus. By the second day, we had a clear plan, and the students started working on the basics of app development. By the end of the event, we had the groundwork laid for a practical app that could benefit students by centralizing their study materials. The Makethon was not only a success in terms of the app’s development, but it also provided valuable learning experiences for the students involved, helping them gain a better understanding of app creation and problem-solving through technology.
Conclusion
September was a productive month at Vigyan Ashram, as we made significant strides in several key areas. From upgrading the DST website and developing practical systems like the kitchen attendance tracker to mentoring the next generation of innovators, our efforts have been centered around using technology to improve processes and solve real-world problems.
We look forward to continuing this momentum in the coming months, as we build upon the progress made and explore new opportunities to make a positive impact through technology and innovation.
