Transforming a Dome: Redesigning from Storage to a Dynamic Sitting and Recreational Area

I am working on redesigning a dome that is currently used for storage into a vibrant sitting and recreational area capable of seating almost 25 people. To bring this vision to life, I have created a detailed 3D model of the interior, ensuring a comfortable and functional layout for relaxation and social activities. Additionally, I have developed various design concepts for the exterior, which will be painted to enhance the aesthetic appeal and blend seamlessly with the surroundings. This project aims to transform the dome into a welcoming space that fosters community interaction and provides a peaceful retreat for students and visitors alike.

Capturing Dimensions and CAD Modeling

To get started, I took careful measurements of the dome to ensure everything would fit perfectly. Using these measurements, I created a 3D model of the new design in Blender, a CAD application. These models show what the interior layout and exterior designs will look like. In my presentation, I’ll show both the actual photos and the CAD models to highlight the changes from a storage space to a sitting and recreational area. These CAD models are not rendered, focusing more on the basic layout and structure.

Interior Design

Inside the dome, I plan to arrange the seating in a circular form along the inside edge. This setup ensures maximum capacity and allows everyone to see each other, making it perfect for discussions and group activities. To complete the scene, a small coffee table will be placed in the center. This arrangement not only maximizes the use of space but also creates a welcoming and interactive environment for everyone to enjoy.

I added some trees and plants to the scene to see how it would look in real life. This also trained me for rendering forest based scenes which i can use in other 3d projects. I wanted to add the internal lights under of behind the table or sofa so it doesn’t face someone directly in the face and would provide a good source of ambient lighting. I would prefer the use of warm lights as it gives a spacious and comfortable feel.

Colour of the Dome

These are some of the designs I finalized for the exterior based on the surrounding environment and some elements I was suggested by the users. These match the concept of other buildings around it and some of my ideas that are military pattern as it blends seamlessly in the environment and light shins through the windows will look beautiful.
