Objective

1 :- Vigyan Ashram kitchen chimney repair

2:- Exhaust fan control using Arduino uno And thermocouple sensor

Our main objective is to solve the smoke problem in our kitchen when burning wood in wood stove. Our main aim is to reduce the smoke by using various methods like working on a kitchen chimney or exhaust fans.

There was a discussion with Prasad sir, Suvarna mam and Dixit sir about the smoke coming from the stove in the kitchen, in which the chimney must be used to bring out this smoke. Now it has been said to make from new material, like FRP / ceramic / cement to make it.
FRP: In the temperature range of 250°C-350°, FRP loses about 50% of its strength which is much faster than the strength loss of steel

Ceramic: Temperature Range Medium range material should be fired at a furnace temperature between 2124°f- 2264°f ( 1162°c-1240°C) This is the common temperature range

There was a discussion with Prasad sir, during which we concluded that the temperature of the furnace should be tried and the temperature should be recorded from the time it is lit in the morning till the food is cooked.
Thereby, we can see that up to what temperature our FRP / ceramic / cement pipe will be able to run for a long time

Today there was a discussion with Dixit sir and Prasad sir. they asked me to use cement pipe for chimney and take the price and quotation of cement pipe from the market in the village.

Today I went to Pabal village and brought the pipe I needed.
Then Dixit sir and Prasad sir decided that we have to make a stand for the pipe which we are going to install on the chimney and then install it later.

To install the pipe in the chimney, bricks and cement are used to support it. Later the old pipe was cut out and the tin shed was cut to go to the chimney pipe, after that the pipe support was cleaned. It has since been painted red oxide.

Today the fabrication of chimney was done. The new pipe was fitted and it was packed by applying cement. Later Dixit sir and Prasad sir checked and discussed and decided that it should be packed with FRP.

Today after installing the new pipe its temperature was taken and FRP work was done
FRP mixed with putty powder, cobalt, hardener, resin applied on glass fall

There was a discussion with Dixit sir and Prasad sir. The temperature of the outer part of the pipe has to be taken. And in the kitchen we got the feedback from the mahoshis that the usual smoke there is no more and that they feel relieved not to struggle breathing anymore.

The primary data is already there but it took 2 days to get the secondary data after making the temperature graph repeatable from the line graph maker.

When discussed with Dixit Sir for further work on the chimney, he told me that after taking the chimney to a higher height, an exhaust fan has to be fitted in it by giving a T-band so that the hot air is extracted.

Discussion was held with Dixit sir for further work on chimney. The exhaust fans should run automatically with temperature sensor, so that when furnace temperature is high. Exit fan should run automatically when a 50 degree threshold is reached to make sure the temperature of the pipe on the chimney is correct. This set up has to be interfaced with DS18B20 with Arduino uno.

Use of temperature sensor with exhaust fan

Today, I read the information about all the components and then later got the components from fablab and soldered them to the components.

Arduino UNO

Arduino UNO is based on an ATmega328P microcontroller. It is easy to use as compared to other boards, such as Arduino Mega Board, etc. The board contains digital and analog input/output pins (I/O), shields, and other circuits.

DS18B20 temperature sensor

The DS18B20 temperature sensor doesn’t require any external components to function. Its temperature range is -55°C to +125°C
The sensor operates on a 3V to 5.5V power supply and draws only 1mA during active temperature conversion.

GND :- is the ground pin.

DQQ is a 1-wire data bus that must be connected to a digital pin on the microcontroller.
VCC:- Provides power to the sensor, which is from 3.3V to 5V.
Start by connecting VCC to the 5V pin of the Arduino and GND to ground.
Connect the red wire of the DS18B20 to 5V, the black wire to ground, and the yellow wire to digital pin 2 on the Arduino. Still we have to connect 4.7K pullup resistor between data and 5V.

Relays are switches that open and close circuits electromechanically or electronically. Relays control one electrical circuit by opening and closing contacts in another circuit.
Normally Open Contact (NO) – No contact is also called make contact. It closes the circuit when the relay is activated. It disconnects the circuit when the relay is de-energized.
Normally Closed Contact (NC) – NC contact is also known as break contact. This is the opposite of NO contact. When the relay is activated, the circuit is disconnected. When the relay is de-energized, the circuit is connected.

Exit fan

Ideal for extracting large amounts of air from industrial machinery rooms, workshops and other dusty areas. It also helps to remove excess water vapor from boiler rooms and cooling towers by exhausting them through roof ventilators.

After soldering the components, coding was done in Arduino Uno. A test was run. The threshold was set at 30 degree centigrade as a test and it was prototyped to run the fan at that temperature. Then, its temperature threshold was set to 50 degree.

Kitchen Exit Fan Cover Fabrication


To cover the exhaust fan on the chimney, designed a T shape cover in a DXF file made on solid work,

I saved it in the fast cam, I made G code and cut it in plasma cutter.

It was banded with the help of a machine and then spot welded. It was fitted with the exhaust fan. I made a T shape with the pipe and put it on the chimney. It was made to be installed on the chimney by installing a fan. Then the exit fan was started.

Today I discussed with Dixit sir, he told me that, now it has to be run with solar battery. Firstly, I have to extract the power of the battery and calculate the power of the solar panel installed in it
